Rader keeps Relay moving

Each woman receives a free makeup kit to use during and after the workshop. "Cancer treatment results in a compromised immune system for most cancer patients. For this reason, changes in the area of personal care are necessary. For example, something as minor as a hang nail can result in a serious infection," explains Rader, "and we address these issues as we work together. We can meet in a community room or in a church basement. The place is really not that important," she said. Beauty products for this program are donated by such corporations as Estee Lauder, Clinique, Lacombe, Proctor & Gamble and others. To participate in this program, cancer patients may call 1-800-ACS-2345 or call Rader at Salon Exposure at (304) 788-6634.

He has pioneered techniques such as ‘ductoscopy' and skin-sparing mastectomy (SSM). He believes it is vital that all breast cancer patients are made aware of the latest treatment options as they could have implications on the quality of care that they receive. What do you say after you've said goodbye?
Some years ago I remember an older friend and her horror when she held up her arms and noticed the loose, flabby skin flap that hung from her upper arms. "My God! When did that happen?" she said. Getting old happens sometimes it sneaks up on you from behind, and sometimes it drops on you like a ton of bricks. Prior to my cancer diagnosis, it was comforting for me to know that I looked much younger than my years. Not anymore. Chemotherapy has aged me beyond belief. Isn't that an irony? The treatments I take to live longer have made an old woman of me within months. No one remarks upon the changes I see in the mirror every day. As bad as I look to myself, others are surprised that it isn't worse. I guess when people hear that you have Stage IV lung cancer they expect to see a gaunt, skeletal person near death.

Philadelphia Eagles coach Jim Johnson has cancer
The tumor developed from a melanoma in the same area where Johnson's skin cancer was diagnosed in 2001, Eagles trainer Rick Burkholder told The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News. Johnson also has cancer in other areas of his body, Burkholder said, but he declined to elaborate. The team did not offer a prognosis but Burkholder said doctors are very optimistic. "Jim's very upbeat about it and Vicky, his wife, is upbeat about it," he said. "Nobody has given me a number — you've got this much time — or anything like that. It has all been positive in terms of treating this cancer." .

Restorative yoga offers gentle relief for cancer patients, families
Scanlon, a cancer survivor for three years now, says afterwards that the demonstration session is making her realize how much she missed yoga while she was undergoing her cancer treatment. "It makes me realize what I'm missing in my life," says Scanlon. "I wish I had more time to practice yoga." Glore says restorative yoga returns a sense of control to cancer patients and reassures stressed family members as they see their loved one is able to relax and cope. It makes children feel safer. Lying side by side in complete relaxation during the gentle yoga sessions, family members often hold hands. "'Will I survive? Will my family be all right?' These are concerns common to cancer patients who feel they have lost control," says Glore. "This can overwhelm a patient and influence the ability to experience the pleasure of everyday life." The restorative yoga used in the sessions she will be conducting at North Parish Church has been studied specifically as it relates to cancer, according to Glore.

The drug lowers hormone levels that can contribute to the growth of prostate cancer, the second most common cancer in American men, after skin cancer. Prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death in men. Prostate cancer is detected through a blood test that looks at prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels. In 2008, 186,000 new cases were diagnosed, while just under 29,000 men died of the disease. One man in six will get prostate cancer during his lifetime. Early screening has helped lower the death rate to one in 35, according to the American Cancer Society. Results of the Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial, which studied whether finasteride could prevent prostate cancer, were first published in 2003 in the New England Journal of Medicine.
TCE-Related Toxic Waste in Irvine Much Worse Than Previously Revealed
"While I was stationed at El Toro I came down with skin cancer I was only 21 or 22. The base Doctor was shocked to see someone at my age with skin cancer. Now later on in life I'm in my 30's and have a lot of skin problems and my body no longer makes testosterone on its own. I have been to many doctors and they do not know why this is, could TCE be the cause?" Bonura asked. Matthew Bonura's letter is only the most recent from a former or current Marine, that we have received since this series of reports began last year. Another former El Toro Marine named Glenn Hawk also wrote to us in January, explaining that he was stationed at El Toro from 1971 thru 1973 as a Marine Ground support Hydraulic specialist with VMGR-352. "I worked with a private contractor who used TCE to clean the exhaust trail on the C-130 turbo prop aircraft.
